How to Get the Most Out of a Payments Industry Trade Show

Advance Your Merchant Reseller Career

Whether you’re looking for an entry point into the payments industry, or want to advance your merchant reseller career, attending a trade show can be a smart investment. But not all trade show experiences are created equal.

How can you maximize the ROI on your time and money?

Here are three specific ways to get the most out of the next payments industry trade show you attend.

1. Know who’s attending. Do your research before you attend an industry event. Trade shows like TRANSACT18 (happening April 17-19, 2018) publish schedules detailing keynotes speakers, session facilitators, panelists, and exhibitors. Take time to review the schedule and decide which events you want to attend and who you want to meet. Networking can occur at everything from luncheons and golf tournaments to keynotes and receptions.

2. Prepare to make connections. If you can find the names of the speakers, exhibitors, or attendees you want to meet, prepare for these conversations. Research these individuals like you would for a job interview—checking out their LinkedIn profile or professional biography. This knowledge can facilitate productive conversations and help you build solid connections. Prior to the event, let the individual know you’re interested in meeting. Get on their radar before the show.

3. Attend keynotes and participate in sessions. Most payments industry trade shows include breakout sessions about industry-related topics. For example, TRANSACT18 is host to more than 60 education sessions covering things like Politics & Policy (e.g. Retooling Your Processing Agreement to Avoid Litigation Exposure) and Integrated Payments/Software (e.g. Overview of the Evolving ISV Marketplace). Engage with these presentations to keep up with industry trends and innovations. Attending sessions is a great way to connect with thought leaders in the industry.
